Crazy Hat/Crazy Hair Day
We are having fun these last few weeks of school! This is the last full week for our 8th graders so they planned a fun filled week. An 8th graders visited us on Monday and taught a lesson. Tuesday was class colors day and we did buddy reading with the 6th grade. Wednesday was Crazy Hat/Crazy Hair Day. Tomorrow continues with an afternoon "sock hop." ("You mean we get to take our shoes off and dance in our socks?") Friday is our annual Walk-a-thon and we get to wear school colors (blue and yellow). What a fun week!
Naturally, we are still doing our Reading, Math, Calendar, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, and Handwriting. This week brought sunshine and warmer weather too. Only 16 more days until my Super First Graders have to leave me to move on to Second Grade. I will miss them.

Hi Sharon, I am doing the count down as well with my pre-k 4 and 5 year olds. I too will miss them. I love it when the kids get to express themselves like some of the activities you described.
ReplyDeleteI also like your blog page with the kids. This is my first time and hopefully I can figure out a way to incorporate blogs with pre-k. Got any ideas?
Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteI really like how you are using your blog to highlight positive accomplishments within your classroom as well as your school! I think that parents and students would love to share these milestones with one another at home. Are you thinking about using the blog to post daily lessons, homework, assignments, projects, etc…? This would allow parents to be aware of the content that is being taught as well as responsibilities of students in and out of the classroom? If you are, I am curious how you are going to get parents familiar with blogging. As a newcomer to blogging, I see this as being my biggest challenge as well! I was thinking about inviting parents in to school for a teacher demonstration, but I know that only a small percentage of parents would show up. How do we get parents motivated to utilize our blogs, but more importantly, how do we teach them how to use it? Are we going to rely on our students to educate at home?
Hi Sharon, thanks for the wonder ideas to get me started. This will probably work well with my parents. The past two years I have experienced a difference in the communication styles of some of the pre-k parents. I often say that I could get more feedback if I were to text or email one of them. I use a lot of educational sites with my students during the day. Have you ever tried www.mightbook.com It is an excellent site for read aloud books of many ages. In addition, they have lessons plus a short quiz about the story. They stories were developed by other teachers. I am going to see if they offer a blog on their site. Thanks a lot for the information.
ReplyDeleteSara,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments. I have not yet given my parents the URL to my blog. I think I will post it on my classroom web page which is through the school. It is just a very basic web page. I use to have a geocities web page that I really liked. I have not found anything that is comparable yet. I have some parents who are checking my web page for the homework and for recommended web sites. I think those parents will love the blog. There will always be parents who will not put the extra time into checking out your blog or web page or even helping their child do any homework. But 90%+ are GREAT parents who try to help their child succeed.
